Jan. 1. 1989 ○ Because west of Jungnangcheon, Junghwa-dong, Jungnang-gu was incorporated into Dongdaemun-gu
according to Presidential Decree No. 12557, it was returned to the previous jurisdiction
- 10 bans in 1-tong in Imun 1-dong, 69 bans in 9 tongs in Imun 3-dong
Dec. 26. 1994 ○ Gu regional competence was changed by Presidential Decree No. 14434 (announced on Dec. 22. 1994)
- A part of Sangwangsimni-dong was incorporated into Dongdaemun-gu
- A part of Cheongnyangni-dong, Dongdaemun-gu was incorporated into Seongbuk-gu
Dec. 31. 1994 ○ A part of Sangwangsimni-dong was incorporated into Sinseol-dong according to the Gu ordinance
No. 275 (announced on Dec. 31. 1994)
Jan. 1. 1998 ○ Boundaries between dongs were adjusted and regional competences of administrative dongs
were changed according to the Gu ordinances No. 363 and 364 (announced on Dec. 3. 1997)
- Parts of Jegi-dong and Hoegi-dong were incorporated into Cheongnyangni-dong
- Parts of Cheongnyangni-dong and Jeonnong-dong were incorporated into Hoegi-dong
- A part of Jeonnong 1-dong was incorporated into Jeonnong 4-dong, a part of Jeonnong 4-dong
was incorporated into Jeonnong 1-dong
Jan. 6. 1999 ○ Boundaries between dongs were adjusted by Gu Ordinance No. 425 (announced on May. 22. 1999)
- A part of Jeonnong-dong was incorporated into Jangan-dong
- A part of Imun-dong was incorporated into Hwigyeong-dong
Feb.15. 2003 ○ Boundaries between dongs were adjusted by Gu Ordinance No.727 (announced on Feb.15. 2003)

- A part of Jangan-dong was incorporated into Dapsimni-dong

Aug. 11. 2008 ○ Integrated and renamed administrative dongs by Gu Ordinance No. 753 (announced on July. 11. 2008)
(Boundaries between dogns were adjusted; 26 dongs → 22 dongs)
- Yongdu1,2-dong were integrated into Yongdu-dong
- Jeonnong 2,4-dong were intergrated into Jeonnong 2-dong
- Dapsimni 3, 5-dong were integrated into Dapsimni 3 -dong
- Cheongnyangni 1, 2 -dong were integrated into Cheongyangni-dong
May. 4. 2009 ○ Integrated and renamed administrative dongs by Gu Ordinance No. 784 (announced on May. 4. 2009)

- Sinseol-dong and Yongdu-dong were integrated into Yongsin-dong
- Jegi 1, 2 -dong were integrated into Jegi-dong
- Jeonnong 1, 2-dong were integrated into Jeonnong 1-dong
- changing the name from Jeonnong 3-dong to Jeonnong 2-dong
- Dapsimni 1, 3-dong were integrated into Dapsimni 1-dong
- Dapsimni 2, 4-dong were integrated into Dapsimni 2-dong
- Jangan 1, 3-dong were integrated into Jangan 1-dong
- Jangan 2, 4-dong were integrated into Jangan 2-dong
- Imun 1, 2-dong were integrated into Imun 1-dong
- changing the name from Imun 3-dong to Imun 2-dong
