Apr. 1. 1911 ○ Soongsin-bang and Inchang-bang were renamed Soongsin-myeon and Inchang-myeon, respectively
Apr. 1. 1914 ○ Parts of Soongsin-myeon and Inchang-myeon were integrated with Soongin-myeon,
which was incorporated into Goyang-gun, Gyeonggi-do
Sep. 27. 1914 ○ The Dongbu Local Office opened according to Gyeongseong-bu regulation
Jun. 17. 1915 ○ Abolished the Dongbu Local Office
Apr. 1. 1936 ○ Dongbu Local Office reopened according to Gyeongseong-bu regulation, parts of Soongin-myeon
and Hanji-myeon in Goyang-gun, Gyeonggi-do were incorporated
Jun. 10. 1943 ○ Dongbu Local Office divided into Dongdaemun-gu and Seongdong-gu offices according to the 'Gu' system
Oct. 1. 1946 ○ Changed the name of dongs from Japanese style to Korean style
Aug. 13. 1949 ○ Newly established Seongbuk-gu according to Presidential Decree No.159 (announced on Aug. 13,
1948) and part of Dongdaemun-gu was incorporated into Seongbuk-gu

Oct. 31. 1959 ○ Jeonnong 2-dong divided into Jeonnong 2, 3-dong and Dapsimni-dong divided into Dapsimni 1, 2-dong
according to City Ordinance No.165
Jan. 1. 1963 ○ Myeonmok-dong in Seongdong-gu was incorporated into Dongdaemun-gu according to City
Ordinance No. 275, part of Guri-myeon in Yangju-gun, Gyeonggi-do was incorporated according to
Law No.1172 (announced on Nov. 21, 1962) and Mangu Office opened (24 dongs)
Jan. 1. 1968 ○ Mangu Office closed according to City Ordinance No. 491 (announced on Dec. 29, 1967)
May. 18. 1970 ○ Regular staff of office and jurisdiction changed according to City Ordinance No .613 (announced
on May 5, 1970) (changed from 28 dongs to 34 dongs)
Jun. 26. 1973 ○ Part of Myeonmok-dong in Dongdaemun-gu was incorporated into Seongdong-gu and part of
Junggok-dong in Seongdong-gu was incorporated into Dongdaemun-gu according to Presidential
Decree No. 6548 (announced on Mar. 12, 1973)
Jul. 1. 1973 ○ Newly established Myeonmok 3-dong and Myeonmok 4-dong according to City Ordinance No. 784
(announced on Jun. 26, 1973) (changed from 34 dongs to 36 dongs)
Oct. 1. 1975 ○ The 'Gu' district changed according to Presidential Decree No. 7816 (announced on Sep. 23, 1975)
- Changsin-dong, Soongin-dong and part of Sinseol-dong in Dongdaemun-gu
were incorporated in Jongno-gu
- Respective parts of Myeonmok-dong, Yongdu-dong and Dapsimni-dong in Dondaemun-gu
were incorporated in Seongdong-gu
- Bomun-dong 1 ga, 2 ga, 3 ga, 4 ga, 5 ga, 6 ga and respective parts of Bomun-dong 7 ga
and Sinseol-dong in Dongdaemun-gu were incorporated in Seongbuk-gu
- Respective parts of Junggok-dong, Neung-dong and Gunja-dong in Seongdong-gu were incorporated
in Dongdaemun-gu
- Respective parts of Jongam-dong, Anam-dong 4 ga, 5 ga and Seokgwan-dong in Seongbuk-gu
were incorporated in Dongdaemun-gu
